Frequently Asked Questions

A wool jacket like the Halsted is shorter, hitting at the hip, and built for milder weather and everyday layering rather than the coldest days of winter. A full length coat trades that ease of movement for more coverage and warmth.

The Halsted, 100% Wool Jacket is rated for 30°F and above, so it covers fall and the milder edges of winter. Our longer coats are rated down to 5°F, which makes them a better fit once temperatures really drop.

It depends on where you live and how you layer. In a place with real cold, a wool jacket works best paired with a sweater underneath or layered over one of our longer coats once the temperature drops below 30°F.

The Halsted, wool jacket is cut with room for a sweater underneath, so a knit layer is usually enough to extend how far into winter it works. For colder days, it also layers well under a longer coat.

The higher the wool content, the better it holds heat and keeps its shape over time. The Halsted is cut from 100% wool with no polyester blended in to bring the price down. Our guide on how much wool a coat should have explains why that ratio matters.
