Size XXS Sizing Guide

Susan had been looking for a coat. She wasn’t sure about the size. She emailed Liz.  “Liz is not just selling a coat — she is offering a very personal service of choosing the right coat for your style and satisfaction. I wore the coat the very day I received it.” — Susan M., verified buyer

The Southport in Navy is a knee-length wool coat designed to fit the way a coat should — room for a layering, adjustable cuffs so you never need a tailor, a magnetic horn-snap closure that stays closed in wind.  Navy is rich and deep — the kind of color that reads as a neutral while being anything but. Made in Chicago from Climate Beneficial wool grown on regenerative American farms.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are wool coats warm?

YES. Our coats are made with high-quality 100% wool and fully lined, these two elements provide excellent insulation while remaining breathable. Wool naturally regulates temperature, keeping you warm in cold weather without overheating. Our longer, double breasted coats are warmer than our shorter single breasted coats. More coat = more warmth.

2. What are the benefits of a 100% wool coat?

A 100% wool coat offers excellent warmth, durability, and breathability. Wool resists odors, regulates body temperature, and maintains its shape over time. Wool is also renewable and biodegradable. When combined with regenerative farming wool can enhance soil health and bio-diversity.

3. Are your coats fully lined?

Yes. All Checkroom coats are fully lined for warmth, structure, and longevity.

4. How should a wool coat fit?

Our coats are designed to allow for comfortable layering while maintaining a clean, tailored silhouette. If you regularly wear blazers under your coats, you may consider sizing up.

5. How long should a quality wool coat last?

With proper care, a well-made wool coat can last 10–20 years or more, making it a worthwhile investment. Brushing and steaming between cleanings can extend the life of your coat along with storing it on a wide hanger to help maintain its shape.

6. Where are your coats made?

Our coats are made in the USA using responsibly sourced RWS certified domestic wool, with a focus on craftsmanship, transparency, and ethical production.

Warm and luxurious

Absolutely in love with my coat! The fabric feels heirloom quality—thick but not too thick and the navy color is beautiful and vibrant. I had so many questions for Liz and she was an absolute gem. If you’re a petite lady, she does have petite patterns available as well. Add to cart, you will not regret it!

Glamorous coat

The entire process of buying my coat - Southport XXS in navy blue - was very personal. I was concerned about what size to order since I normally wear petite sizes. Liz felt that in her experience, the XXS would work, and suggested that I could try an XS to see the coat and understand the fit and exchange for an XXS if that was clearly a better option. She was absolutely right. Furthermore, I thought I wanted my coat in burgundy, but liked the navy blue XS so well, I changed my mind.
Liz is very easy to work with because she is not just selling a coat - she is offering a very personal service of choosing the right coat for your style and satisfaction. And I am very satisfied, indeed! I wore the coat the very day I received it!

Timeless Everyday Elegance

I love my Southport Overcoat. It’s warm, comfortable, beautifully made, and so classic. I had been researching sustainable, ethical wool coats for a while, but the Checkroom was the only company I found that considered every angle—from material and land use to animal welfare, labor, and artisanship. When I read that the wool is made in a CT town that part of my family comes from, it was like a message from above! This coat is worth the investment in every possible way—my wardrobe, the planet, the economy, and local skilled labor.
