Our coats are designed to fit true to size with room for a sweater of medium thickness. If you regularly wear very thick sweaters or blazers underneath, consider sizing up. The XXS is engineered for women 5'1"–5'4" at a size 00/0. Most styles suit women 5'4"–6'. Individual coat lengths by size are on the full fit guide.

How to Measure

Standard Measurements

Bust
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, parallel to the floor. Keep it snug but not tight. Measure over a light layer.

Waist
Measure around your natural waist — the narrowest part of your torso, usually an inch or two above your belly button.

Hip
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat, usually 7–9 inches below your natural waist, parallel to the floor.

Shoulder — Across the Back
With your arms relaxed at your sides, measure straight across the back from the edge of one shoulder to the other — from shoulder tip to shoulder tip. This is the measurement most likely to determine your size if you are between two sizes. A coat that fits at the shoulder will fit everywhere else. Please note, shoulder across back measurements are very different from shoulder across front measurements.

Sleeve Length — CB Neck to Wrist

Stand with your arm relaxed at your side, elbow slightly bent.

Place the tape at the prominent bone at the center back of your neck — where your neck meets your shoulders.

Run it across the top of your shoulder, down the outside of your arm, to your wrist bone.

We measure sleeve length from CB neck — not the shoulder seam — so your measurement matches our chart directly.

Coat Length — CB Neck to Hem

Stand straight with feet together.

Place the tape at the same prominent bone at the center back of your neck.

Run it straight down your back to where you'd like the coat to fall.

Fully lined, with room to layer underneath, this coat boasts adjustable cuffs so you don't need a tailor, and a clean magnetic closure that holds in wind. The 100% Shaniko Wool exterior is RWS certified, grown on regenerative American farms, NATIVA Regen certified, woven at American Woolen in Connecticut, and sewn ethically in Chicago, IL. Rated for 5 to 35°F. This is a coat you wear for 15 years.

A forever keeper!

My new Southport coat in camel logged multiple miles on the streets of Chicago this weekend and was a fan favorite of my daughters:)

It is so warm (can adjust for neck protection too), comfy (gorgeous soft wool), functional (single snap closure and magnets, with or without belt), and stylish. It looks great dressed up or dressed down. Absolutely love it. Thank you, Liz and team!

P.S.

My new Southport coat kept me warm on the coldest days of the recent subzero blast in Northern Ohio (-2 degrees/-20 wind-chill). I had a quilted liner from another coat ready to layer under it, but never needed it. Chicago-level warm indeed!

Finally— A proper coat!

I’d add extra stars if I could. After trying on dozens of coats over the last 2 years that were not quite right, including some really expensive ones, this one is perfect! It is properly cut and proportioned— no huge shoulders on the XL, but still room for a blazer underneath, and the sleeves are set properly so you can lift your arms without the whole coat lifting up. The wool is so soft without a hint of itch, and even the lining is a high quality fabric. Overall, the craftsmanship is impeccable. Worth every penny, and so happy to find a coat made in USA!!

What makes this coat different from other designer coats?

Most designer camel coats are wool blends, made overseas, pulled from warehouses of thousands. The Southport is 100% wool. It's RWS (responsible wool standard) and NATIVA Regen certified, grown on American farms, woven at American Woolen in Connecticut, and cut and sewn in Chicago. Every coat is made on demand by skilled craftspeople, not in bulk. That combination of real wool, real American supply chain, and real small-batch craftsmanship is hard to find at any price.

Will it keep me warm?

Yes, comfortably. One Northern Ohio customer wore hers through a subzero blast (negative 2 degrees, negative 20 wind-chill) and never needed the quilted layer she'd planned to wear underneath. Her words: "Chicago-level warm indeed." The Southport is rated for 5 to 35°F, 100% wool, and fully lined. There's room underneath for a sweater when you need it.

Why does it take four weeks? Other brands ship in two days.

Because we don't make coats in advance. Every coat is cut and sewn after it's ordered, in small batches by Chicago craftspeople. Nothing is made in bulk, which keeps waste low and quality high. Customers tell us it's "well worth the wait."
