Size XXS Sizing Guide

Most wool coats are designed for January. The Tuxedo Coat is designed for the other ten months.

Straight cut, rolled lapel, double snap horn closure: menswear tailoring with the proportions calibrated for women. It's the coat for work, for events, for October and March when you need something that looks right without the bulk of a full winter coat. 100% RWS-certified wool, made in Chicago. Rated for 30–50°F.

Key details:

100% wool: RWS + NATIVA Regen certified, domestic fiber to finish

Fully lined in The Checkroom's signature stripe lining (52% Rayon, 48% Poly)

Straight cut: from the bust to the hip

Elegantly rolled lapel, double snap horn closure

       Deep on-seam side pockets

Rated: 30°F to 50°F, designed for shoulder season and transitional weather

If you need a coat for Chicago winters below 20°F, the Southport (knee-length) or Dearborn (full-length) are better choices. Our fit guide lays out how the silhouettes compare.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are wool coats warm?

YES. Our coats are made with high-quality 100% wool and fully lined, these two elements provide excellent insulation while remaining breathable. Wool naturally regulates temperature, keeping you warm in cold weather without overheating. Our longer, double breasted coats are warmer than our shorter single breasted coats. More coat = more warmth.

2. What are the benefits of a 100% wool coat?

A 100% wool coat offers excellent warmth, durability, and breathability. Wool resists odors, regulates body temperature, and maintains its shape over time. Wool is also renewable and biodegradable. When combined with regenerative farming wool can enhance soil health and bio-diversity.

3. Are your coats fully lined?

Yes. All Checkroom coats are fully lined for warmth, structure, and longevity.

4. How should a wool coat fit?

Our coats are designed to allow for comfortable layering while maintaining a clean, tailored silhouette. If you regularly wear blazers under your coats, you may consider sizing up.

5. How long should a quality wool coat last?

With proper care, a well-made wool coat can last 10–20 years or more, making it a worthwhile investment. Brushing and steaming between cleanings can extend the life of your coat along with storing it on a wide hanger to help maintain its shape.

6. Where are your coats made?

Our coats are made in the USA using responsibly sourced RWS certified domestic wool, with a focus on craftsmanship, transparency, and ethical production.

Great customer service

I was unsure of what size to order for a Tuxedo Coat. Liz offered to send one in a different color than I wanted for me to try out. After I tried it, I determined I needed some simple alterations and Liz said those could be done with the creation of a revision of the pattern. There was a nominal charge but had I had the coat arrive and then taken it to a tailor, the cost would have been much more. I’m looking forward to my new “semi custom” coat from The Checkroom!
