When a reporter from the New York Times contacts you about a story they are writing... you return the call! Quickly!
Or at least, that's what I did a few weeks ago when the lovely, Ruth La Ferla of The New York Times Style Department reached out to me about a story she was writing on none other than women's coats! As a coat designer this moment was pretty much a dream come true. Ruth and I spoke at length about our mutual love for fashion and the future of women's outerwear. To say that I was flattered to be having a conversation with this fashion legend, would be an understatement.
As a former costume designer, I mentioned to her that much of my inspiration comes from vintage fashion along with period based movies and TV shows. We talked about The Queens Gambit and The Undoing, both fantastic shows that tell much of their story through outerwear. I'm so flattered that she quoted this "small midwestern label" in the her piece alongside such amazing designers, Jason Wu and Alice and Olivia.
I was so happy for you (AND surprised!) while I was reading the paper a few weeks ago. The NYT??!!) WOW! Congrats!
